This program is designed to introduce Lorica Ministries and share with you our vision of the ministry. Under the leadership of Doug Rumford, Founding President and CEO, and our board of directors, Lorica Ministries provides practical resources and materials that make Christian spiritual formation accessible, satisfying, and sustainable. It provides a constructive framework of tools to equip people for Christian spiritual vitality and to “feed themselves.” Lorica’s delivery model focuses on training through coaching, consulting and cohort groups to create “relational networks” locally, regionally, and throughout the world.

SoulShaping for Individuals

Doug Rumford’s SoulShaping presents a readily accessible approach to the spiritual practices that have nurtured God’s people across the centuries.

The SoulShaping (Second Edition) book combined with the SoulShaping Journal provide clear self-guided teaching that is Christ-centered, biblically based, and practical. They guide readers to:

• Diagnose their spiritual condition by assessing the primary Symptoms of Soul Neglect.
• Develop a personal vision for spiritual vitality.

The SoulShaping Experience

In addition to the personal study of SoulShaping as an individual, there can be great benefit in small groups, congregations, and organizations going through SoulShaping together.

The SoulShaping Experience is presented as a 10-week series that equips God’s people to be fully alive in Christ by bridging the gap between a vague knowledge of Christian spirituality and a vibrant experience of God’s presence, perspective, pace, power, and purpose.

In addition to learning the practice of spiritual disciplines, participants experience the life-altering results those disciplines produce so they can integrate spiritual vitality into their daily lives.

CURRENT & COMPLETED PROJECTS

Pastoral Cohorts: Doug is convening his first SoulShaping Leaders’ Cohort of pastors and
ministry leaders in mid-April. They will meet six times bi-weekly to cultivate the leaders’
personal soul care and to equip them to lead their congregations and organizations through
“The SoulShaping Experience.”
 
Executive Cohorts: Doug has one exhort cohort of three business leaders who meet monthly and then have an individual coaching call monthly.
 
The SoulShaping Experience: One congregation is currently engaged in “The SoulShaping
Experience.” At least two others are considering it. Doug will be leading the SoulShaping
Experience for an El Camino retreat in September.
 
Publicity and promotion: Doug wrote an article on “The SoulShaping Experience” for the
Spring edition of the ECO denomination’s national newsletter.

 
Retreats: Doug presented three messages on SoulShaping at the annual Officers’ (Pastors)
Retreat for the Southern California Division of the Salvation Army, held at Paradise Pier in San Diego January 16-19, 2023. 

Doug taught a three-hour workshop on SoulShaping for the special El Camino Retreat for
Salvation Army Officers who are mid-career. The retreat was in Long Beach January 30
through February 2, 2023.

Doug presented a two-hour workshop on SoulShaping for Leaders for the SoCal Presbytery of ECO at their presbytery meeting on March 25.

Future Events and Projects

SoulShaping as a resource for pastoral candidates. The Christian Spiritual Formation Groups that are part of the ECO Ordination process are using SoulShaping as a resource for candidates preparing for pastoral ministry.

Seminary level course on SoulShaping. Doug is developing a seminary level course on
SoulShaping for ECO’s newly established seminary Flourish Institute of Theology. It will be
offered Spring 2024.

Presbytery Retreat. Doug is presenting a two-day retreat for the Great Lakes Presbytery
(ECO congregations in Ohio and Michigan) at conference center near Toledo, Ohio, 10-11,
2023.

1. PRAY: We live in a time of disorientation. People are searching high and low for the secrets to happiness, fulfillment, resilience, direction, purpose, comfort, and strength. They are searching for the pathway that will lead them to experience the satisfaction of their heart’s yearning.

3. TELL OTHERS: Let people in your sphere of influence know about the important work that Lorica Ministries is doing. We have a tested plan, practical resources, and dynamic support in coaching, consulting, and cohorts of leaders who experience the power of SoulShaping so they can train others. Our goal is to be part of a movement of spiritual vitality, not just another program.

4. DONATE NOW: There is a cost attached to nearly every aspect of launching a ministry like Lorica. Thanks to God for prompting a small group of visionary people who already see the impact of Lorica-sponsored cohorts, the SoulShaping Experience and material. They have given generously and funded the early start-up costs. The time has come when this “new thing” Lorica, can benefit from a growing band of folks who want to help launch a ministry which we believe will become an international, Kingdom-building resource that God uses among current and future generations.

5. BE AN EVANGELIST: We soon will be organizing international efforts to share SoulShaping and The SoulShaping Experience with Christian missionaries around the world.
